Our Veterinarians


Dr. Ken Bernstein

Dr. Ken Bernstein (University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, 1973) treats dogs, cats, rabbits and rodents, and also volunteers as a state and federally licensed wildlife rehabilitator.  His special interests are ophthalmology and lyme disease.

In his spare time, he enjoys hiking in the woods with his dog Tex, fishing, and taking care of his ducks and chickens. He has published articles in peer reviewed veterinary medical journals.

Dr. Sherry Himmelstein

Dr. Sherry Himmelstein (University of Pennsylvania 1976) treats dogs, cats, and birds, along with injured wildlife. Her special interests are diabetes and weight management.

She and her husband, Dr Ken Bernstein, have 2 dogs, a cat, 5 ducks, 4 chickens and 2 grand-dogs (who belong to their adult daughters). She enjoys hiking and is president of Minnechaug Land Trust, a non-profit organization that protects open space in Hampden and Wilbraham.

Dr. Tom Crosson

Dr. Tom Crosson, a Tufts Veterinary School graduate, has been employed at Spruce Hill since 1986.  A dog and cat practitioner, he enjoys both medicine and surgery.

An avid outdoorsman, Dr. Crosson enjoys wilderness camping and hiking, and winter skiing.
